The Week Ahead — Not Much Snow

ORIGINAL POST:  Monday, January 23, 2012

After reaching 44° in the early morning hours Monday, the winds have picked up and the temperatures have taken a tumble to kick off the week with a few snow flurries.
Overall this week, it will be rather quiet.

Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs approaching 30°.  A storm system will be tracking to our south Wednesday and this will send a few clouds our way, but the rain and snow should stay south of us.

Highs Wednesday through Friday should make into the mid-to-upper-30s with with a mix of sun and clouds.  I still think that some scattered snow showers are possible Friday evening, especially south of Interstate 80.

While snowfall amounts last Friday ranged from a trace in our far southern hometowns to around 7″ in our northern hometowns, accumulations in the Quad Cities ranged from 1-5″.
Officially, in Davenport, 4.5″ fell, but only 1.1″ at the airport in Moline.  That’s interesting because I live less than two miles from the airport in Moline and 3″ fell at my house.

However, we’ll talk about the official 1.1″ in Moline.  That brings us up to 8.1″ for the 2011-2012 snow season.  By this time last year, our total was at 23.8″.  In a typical winter, the Quad Cities see about 31.6″.

For January, our average is 9.4″ and this January we’re at 6.7″.

While we still have another week in January, all of February and March, I’m convinced that we’re going to see some more accumulating snow this winter.

However, if we didn’t see another snow that accumulated, this would be the least snowiest winter on record in the Quad Cities!

And, for my peeps back home around western Kentucky, it’s going to be a rainy Wednesday and Thursday.
