ABBA: My Best Friend

My goodbye to Miss ABBA:

The fog hangs in the air shrouding the light, not only in the sky, but in your eyes

You look lost and just want to sleep with me close by your side

I listen to you breathe and each breath sounds deeper

Is it the end or just a peaceful sleep

As I caress your neck and shoulder blades,

You snore even louder as I try harder to hold back the tears

I don’t want you to hear me cry,

I want you to let go and not fight for me

You’ve been there for me all your life

And I want to be there for you now, my love.

My best friend

Miss ABBA is now in puppy heaven.  I was so blessed to have that beautiful golden retriever in my life.

Your words were perfect. The writing was spontaneous and from the heart. Thank you.

I thought of her this morning when I saw the dusting of snow and I realized that she sent it to me to let me know she was thinking of me.

  4. So sorry Anthony for your loss. I had to take one our family members (a beagle basset mix) a few years ago to be laid to rest for her own good and that was probably the toughest thing I have ever done in my life. try to find peace in the fact that she is now completely healthy and free of any issues. Remember, whether it be people or animals, it’s not goodbye but “see ya later”.

  7. Anthony, I am so sorry to hear about Miss ABBA. We will keep you, your family, and especially ABBA close to our hearts and in our thoughts. I know that some people think that we love and take care of dogs but I always think it’s the other way around…..and there is nothing like the love of a Golden Retriever. There is a great quote that says, “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”~Josh Billings…I hope you will try and remember all the love ABBA gave to you as your heart tries to heal.

    Much love to you all,

Much Love and Friendship to you,

    Anthony,
My heart is very heavy for you right now. As I know so badly how much you are hurting. Believe that Miss ABBA is smiling and is pain free as she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I know she and Charlie are playing together, and together they will watch over us, until we meet again. I had to leave my console at work and go cry in the break room because I know I couldn’t answer the phone or radio. I am so sorry Anthony. Sending all my love and prayers. Thank you for sharing MIss ABBA with all of us on Facebook, it was a pleasure to see her beautiful face every day. I will never forget her.

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusted pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

    • Doug,

Thank you. The funny thing is that when I write things, I go back and edit, make changes, and check it again before posting. However, I was lying on the bed with Miss ABBA keeping her relaxed and I just started writing that on a notepad. I didn’t think about what would sound good. I just started writing and a couple of minutes later, that is what was on the notepad.

    • Doug,

      Thank you.

The words flowed from my heart to paper. I didn’t sit and think about what to write about how I was feeling. I just picked up a notepad and pen and wrote for two minutes. No edits and no changed words. I thought it was reflective of how my heart felt at that moment.

I appreciate the fact that you liked it.

There is no love so perfect as the love you have for a dear pet, and the love that pet has for you. Nothing can mar it. The pain of the loss of that friend is equally perfect. You can only take solace in all the beautiful memories (look at those pictures!) and those around you who understand. Much love to you tonight.
