Santorum, Gingrich, & Paul, Concede With Some Dignity‏

Okay, only Ron Paul has any dignity, but it’s time for Rick Santorum, womanizer Newt Gingrich, and Paul to withdraw from the GOP race for President.  Let me clarify, I am NOT endorsing Mitt Romney.  It allows me the opportunity to focus my efforts on fighting one Republican instead of four.

At a recent rally in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Santorum said something that will come back to haunt him, “Wisconsin will send a sound around this country, like the sound of Lexington and Concord.  You will be the shot heard ’round the world.”  Well, it was a resounding “go home, we don’t want you” shot.

Santorum campaigned hard in Wisconsin and he lost to Mitt Romney, 44-37%.  Romney easily beat Santorum in Maryland, 49-29%, and Romney won the District of Columbia.  Three races and three losses for Santorum.

However, Santorum’s chief strategist John Brabender is still holding onto the fairy tale that if his boss wins Pennsylvania and Texas, he could become the GOP candidate to face President Barack Obama in November.

If you believe in polls, Santorum leads Romney in Pennsylvania by 4% and in Texas by 3%.  Both of those states are proportional, which means Romney and Santorum will pretty much split the 227 delegates.

But, wait, on April 24th, when Pennsylvania goes to the poll, New York is voting, too.  There are 95 delegates at stake there and Romney leads Santorum in the poll by 15%.  And, that same day, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Delaware vote (all with Romney leading the polls).

And, then you have to consider California’s “winner takes all” race on June 5th with 172 delegates at state and Romney leading the polls over Santorum by 19.5%.

Mr. Santorum, human dignity and respect are not your strong suits.  And, now, I realize neither is math.  Yes, I called him Mister, not because he’s earned the respect from me, but because he’s sad and he doesn’t realize he’s defeated.

I’ll break it down for you:  According to Real Clear Politics (RCP), you have 272 delegates.  If you were to win ALL of the remaining 1,053 delegates (“mission impossible”, “it’ll be a cold day in hell”, and other clichés come to mind), you would clinch the nomination.  However, that will not happen.

Let me put it another way.  Let’s say you do well in some states.  RCP already has Romney with 655 delegates (57% of what’s needed to earn the GOP nomination) and he’ll probably earn close to 100 more on April 24th and he’ll likely get about 80 more from Texas on May 29th, and most, if not all, of California’s 172 delegates in early June, 652+100+80+172+ more from the other states voting in that time period = SANTORUM DOOM!

And, one last note. When CNN’s Soledad O’Brien asked Santorum’s strategist Brabender about Romney saying that Santorum “is at the desperate end of his campaign,” he replied, “I’m not sure I’m going to listen to the value judgment of a guy who strapped his dog on the top of the roof of his car and went hurling down the highway.”

Seriously!  I’m a dog lover and I think Romney was stupid back in the 1980s for doing that, but is that all you have to fight with.  Move on and drop the whole dog thing.  Raise the white flag.
