Speak Out For Equality For All, Not Most

I don’t care if you’re Democrat, Republican, Independent, or any other party.  For the purpose of this blog, I don’t care if you support Mitt Romney or Barack Obama.  I really don’t want to know what you think of the job President Obama has done since talking office in January 2009.

He had a mess to deal with when he became President and it’s going to take more than four years to make things better.  I haven’t been pleased with all of his decisions, but I respect the man and I know he’s working hard.

I commend President Obama for speaking out against two very hateful ballot initiatives in Minnesota and North Carolina.  And, I ask that if you know people in either state that you contact them and enlighten them on the anti-gay measures that are trying to get passed there.

In North Carolina, there is an initiative on the May ballot, “Amendment One”, that WOULD NOT only ban same-sex marriage, but would eliminate civil unions or domestic partnerships for same-sex couples!!!

The president of the “Institute for American Values” David Blankenhorn even calls this “extreme and dangerous”.  And, this is the man who defended denying same-sex couples the right to marry in California’s “Proposition 8” trail proceedings!

Six out of 10 people in North Carolina oppose “Amendment One”, including North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue.  She called the measure, “wrong” for North Carolina.

President Obama has sent messages to both states calling their ballot measures, “divisive and discriminatory.”

In Minnesota, the ballot initiative would discriminate against committed gay and lesbian couples by not allowing them to marry.  This will be voted on in November.

It’s not known whether the White House will consider backing marriage equality before the November election.

However, President Obama claims that his views continue to “evolve”.
