I just got back from a great walk in downtown Indianapolis and now I’m saddened by the news that Donna Summer has died.
The dance diva died of cancer at the age of 63.
In addition to charting with 20 top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, four of them went all the way to the top of the chart: “MacArthur Park” (1978), “Hot Stuff”, “Bad Girls”, and “No More Tears” with Barbra Streisand, all in 1979.
Summer won 5 Grammy Awards and six American Music Awards.
My favorite Donna Summer song, “Dim All The Lights” peaked at #2 in 1979.
After disco faded from mainstream popularity, she made a comeback in late 1989 with another dance classic, the #7 smash, “This Time I Know It’s For Real”.
R.I.P. Donna, I miss you and your smile already.
