Adorable Lizzie Answers A Big Question For Us

As you know we’re in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for Ray’s 30th high school reunion.  We have three events planned for Friday and Saturday.  We had a casual gathering to barbecue Friday night at a classmate’s house and then today, a lunch picnic for graduates and their families in the park and then tonight, dinner and dancing at a country club.

Since Ray is Facebook friends with more than one-half of his classmates, several of the women knew who I was and came up and hugged me and talked to me.  Some had friended me before the event.

The most asked question for me last night was “who are you?” and “are you with Ray”.  It was a fun gathering with a lot of food and no calorie counting.  It was great.

However, the question that stood out for me was already answered well before my arrival in Fort Dodge and only verified upon walking into Ray’s brother’s house.  Last night, Ray’s classmate and my sweet new friend, Kim Engels White, asked me, “when are you getting another dog?”

Lizzie, Brian’s senior golden retriever, she’ll be 12 this December, met us at the door.  When we were here in July 2011 for Ray’s parent’s 50th anniversary party, seeing Miss ABBA and Miss Lizzie together, they seemed nothing alike.

However, six months after Miss ABBA going to “puppy heaven”, there were many more similarities.  While we have golden retrievers in our neighborhood back in Moline, they really don’t remind me of Miss ABBA, except for being goldens.

But, on this visit, just seeing Lizzie’s graying face, the smile on her face as she demands attention, and then her rolling over onto her side insisting that you rub her head and chin with one hand and he tummy and back with the other.

She really reminds me of Miss ABBA (this is Miss ABBA from July 2011 when we were in Fort Dodge).

And, that answered the question, we’re not ready for another dog and will not likely be getting one for a couple of years.  We’re going to travel before opening up our home to two more goldens. 🙂

Until then, we can live vicariously through other people’s golden retrievers.

I’m glad you two are having a wonderful time up there! Wow, 30th class reunion! Ray doesn’t look a day over 30 himself!! Anyway, you and your family and only you 3 will know when the time is right to get another dog or dogs. Live a little for a while. ABBA’s memories are everywhere in your home and always will be in your heart. She’s still very much alive in spirit! Have a safe trip and NO calorie counting this weekend, BOTH of you!! Enjoy!

Awww….Thanks for sharing<3 You wil know when you are ready for your Babes. Such a Beautiful outcome. Sometimes it's rough trying to find someone so dog watch so you can go on vacation or just to get away. Some places don't allow pets so U made the right choice. Have a good time and enjoy the weekend. Can't wait for the photo's and all the excitement that went on:)
