Two Snowstorms Possible This Upcoming Week

Two snowstorms will likely affect Iowa and Illinois this week and there’s still plenty of time to fine tune the specifics, so I won’t be doing that today.

This is for planning purposes only to let you know what’s coming up.

Snow Watch

The first storm will arrive Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night and early Wednesday. The next storm will arrive late next Saturday into Sunday.

As of Sunday afternoon, I would not be surprised if the early week snowstorm doesn’t produce about the same amount of snow that the last storm Friday night and Saturday produced.  A couple of inches to the north, a few more inches in the Quad Cities, and the heaviest snow south of the metro area.

Here are a few time frames from this afternoon’s GFS model. (The NAM model looks very similar.)

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, it shows the storm beginning to produce snow around and to the southwest of the Quad Cities.

Tuesday 3pm

Six hours later, at 9 p.m. Tuesday, snow should be falling all across the Mississippi and Illinois Valleys.

Tuesday 9 pm

And, by 6 a.m. Wednesday, the worse of the snow will have fallen and we should only be seeing light snow.

Wednesday 6am

Once this storm departs, we head back into the deep freeze with lows Wednesday night and Thursday night below zero and high Thursday only in the single digits.

The next storm could be in later Saturday into Sunday.  The timing on this storm will likely change and so will the exact path of the low, but seven days out, here’s where it’s forecast to be next Sunday morning.

9am Sunday

I’ll have the very latest on these storms and more specific snotals (“snow totals”) on the Tuesday snow event beginning at 5 a.m. Monday on “CBS4 News This Morning”.  Join me for breakfast.

Now, I’m off to watch the final four episodes of “The X-Files” series.  We’ve been watching all nine seasons and the two movies again.

“The Truth Is Out There” and “I Want To Believe”
