Random Friday Thoughts — November 2, 2018

It’s November now and I urge you to get out and vote!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my random thoughts!

DOMESTIC TERRORISM

There are many uneducated and misinformed people here in America that believe terrorists are from other cultures.

Yes, there are terrorists from other cultures, but we should open our eyes because we live in glass houses here in the U.S.!

Last weekend, eleven people were murdered at a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania synagogue.

Look at the ages of these people.  They were someone’s parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, family and friends.  And, they were killed out of ignorance!

Also, in October, many high profile Democrats and CNN were targeted with terrorism and fear from a 56-year-old fitness obsessed, Donald Trump supporter in Florida!

Just look at his van!

Hate Van

Needless to say, it wasn’t a proud couple of weeks to say America is the best country in the world!

MEGHAN McCAIN APOLOGY

In wake of the suspicious packages sent to prominent Democrats and news agencies, including CNN, President Barack Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton, Meghan McCain made an apology on “The View”.

McCain says, I really try every day, I really try to come into work thinking about what rhetoric I’m going to put out in the world and what my father would’ve done if he was still here,” McCain began. “Last year on this show I said, ‘I hate Hillary Clinton’ and I called her Crooked Hillary, and it is one of the things I regret doing.

She goes on to say, “This is not saying I agree with her. I have many vast difference of opinion on philosophy and ideology, and I didn’t think she was a great candidate. But ‘hate’ is not a word that should be coming out of my mouth on television about someone of a different political persuasion.”

“BLUE WAVE”

As winter nears, people talk of cold snaps or “cold waves”, all I’m envisioning on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, is an Election Day “blue wave”!

CAITLYN JENNER’S ADMISSION

Caitlyn Jenner now admits that she was wrong about Donald Trump and his anti-LGBTQ stances.

Caitlyn

Well, Caitlyn, it’s a little too late for that now — until midterms and 2020!

Make it right!

This also goes for people that voted for Jill Stein and Gary Johnson and for those that didn’t vote just to take a stance against 45 and Hillary Clinton!

MORE KENNEDY

As I stated last week, I’m reading a biography of President John F. Kennedy by Ted Sorensen, his adviser and speechwriter, which is 800-plus pages.

Kennedy Sorensen

With the mid-term elections coming up and the stench of the 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign and election reeking every day, I was blown away by a statement made by Sorensen midway through the book.

Talking about the 1960 presidential run, Sorensen writes, “The campaign had illuminated many a dark corner of intolerance and ignorance.”

What would Sorensen (who died Halloween 2010) think of the the political climate since 2016 if he were alive today???

Another thing to note:  Kennedy and I are very much alike in many ways, especially this one, “Forgive but never forget.”

DIWALI

The holiday season is here and Christmas is now just weeks away.

While I’m not converting from being Christian, I’m very intrigued by Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

Diwali (also known as Dipavali) is celebrated in the fall in the northern hemisphere.  It’s celebrated across most of India on Wednesday, November 7th in 2018 (November 6th in some places).

Why does it touch my sensibilities other than the beautiful display?

It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”.

We could really use that in the world these days!!!!!!!!

HALLOWEEN

I hope you had a very spooky, fun Halloween!

Here’s a blast from the past — me trying to duplicate Lady Gaga’s VMA look from 2009.  I can say “A Star Is Born”, but it wasn’t me. 🙂

“AMERICAN HORROR STORY:  APOCALYPSE”

The sixth episode of the new season of “American Horror Story:  Apocalypse” called “Return to Murder House” takes us back to the first season of the anthology series.

There were many funny lines in the creepy episode including this exchange between “Coven” witches Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) and Behold Chablis (Billy Porter), “Calm down skinny witch!”

Jessica Lange also made her triumphant return for one episode to reprise her role from the first season with the classic line:

“I’m Constance Langdon and this is my f**king house!”

INTERESTING JESSICA LANGE FACT

Lange is from Cloquet, Minnesota, which is about 20 minutes outside Duluth!

NOVEMBER IS HERE!

I love my turkey and dressing and I give thanks daily for what I have, but this is so me!!!!!!!!!!

“IT’S THE HOLIDAY SEASON”

And, don’t be like this sheep! 🙂

Bah Humbug

I baaa-ught (I couldn’t resist) — I bought my first new Christmas CD of the season, the latest from Martina McBride.

Martina

It’s a nine-song collection with a big band sound.

While I love Martina McBride, her country roots gets lost in her voice throughout the collection.

I know the sound is more universal, but there are times on the album that you wouldn’t know it’s Martina.  It could be any generic female singer.

Overall, a great new addition to Christmas recordings.

GRADE:  B

THAT’S IT

With all the craziness in the world, make it the best in your little part of it!

They Said What??? — Cher, Matt Bomer, Katy Perry, Pat Quinn, & Meghan McCain

CHER

(tweeting about Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney):  “I Feel if he (Obama) doesn’t get all his DUCKS IN A ROW we’ll b forced 2 listen 2Uncaring Richy Rich! The whitest man in MAGIC UNDERWEAR in the WH (White House).”

MEGHAN McCAIN, DAUGHTER OF ARIZONA SENATOR JOHN McCAIN

“I think it’s so unfair for people to sort of say that gay Republican men must be somehow self-loathing or something of that nature.  They just believe in their country being run a certain way. And until I think the Democratic Party comes out and actually passes legislation, we’re not impressed. I’m not impressed with Obama going on TV and saying, ‘I have gay friends and I think they should get married.’ That to me is the same thing as saying, ‘I have black friends and they should get married but I’m not actually going to pass legislation that interracial marriage should happen.’ If you put it in those terms it’s a completely different situation. And the fact that people just seem to be okay with President Obama doing that, as far as I’m concerned, he’s not doing enough for the gay community and it’s not enough to sway me. I’m glad it’s okay with you guys but it’s not enough for me. I know lots of gay people that are voting for Romney. Because I think in America, people aren’t one-issue voters.”

MORE MEGHAN

“As far as I’m concerned, GOProud is a rogue group that has publicly said very nasty things about me, very nasty things. And they’re the type of gay Republicans that I think exacerbate the stereotype. Ann Coulter is who they had speak at one of their conventions and was touted as some kind of icon, a woman who uses gay slurs on televsion. In gay Republican circles, GOProud are not respected. They do not like me and I do not like them.”

VILLAGE VOICE COLUMNIST MICHAEL MUSTO

(to GOProud that endorsed Mitt Romney in this year’s presidential election): “I always thought that any gay who backs a candidate that doesn’t support equal rights must have some very scary death wish.  It’s self-defeating and downright creepy!”

GOProud’s EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JIMMY LaSALVIA

(firing back at Musto)”Have you seen Michael Musto lately? We aren’t going to take serious political advice from a human Muppet.  Musto should stick to writing gossip pieces about Lindsay Lohan and leave politics to the professionals.”

MORE MUSTO

“I was hired as an entertainment columnist in 1984, but expanded that from day one to include gay (and other) political issues, as well as doing feature stories and eventually blogs on those topics…. Do I look like a Muppet? Yeah, but how is that relevant? Are the “professionals” in politics the ones who mock each other’s looks rather than try to find some rational defense for their own behavior? And by the way, Lindsay Lohan is openly bisexual and not part of any self-hating bi group, so cheers to her.”

“MAGIC MIKE” ACTOR MATT BOMER

“What we really have to do is stop the adjective before the job title—whether it’s ‘black actor,’ a ‘gay actor’ or ‘anything actor.’  Everybody thinks that equality comes from identifying people, and that’s not where equality comes from. Equality comes from treating everybody the same regardless of who they are. I hope the media and the press catches on to that because it’s time to move out of 1992.”
ILLINOIS DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR PAT QUINN

(about the state’s chances of allowing same sex couples to marry.  Civil unions are offereed in Illinois):  “We’re moving forward.  The key is to get a majority in both houses of the Legislature to get a bill on my desk I can sign. I think we’re closer every day.”

POP SINGER KATY PERRY

“I think Madonna, especially in the beginning of her career when she was laying the foundation, was evolving every single time and giving a new visual and a new idea to the public.  She kept everybody interested because you never knew what she was going to do next, but whatever she delivered was a solid product.  I just hope to be the same.  I hope to continually make people interested and hopefully in 10 years look back and have written songs that have become timeless.”

NEW YORK KICKS FORWARD AMARE STOUDEMIRE

(after privately tweeting a fan, ‘F*ck you. I don’t have to do any thing fag.’ to defend himself after the fan criticizes his performance this season):  “I apologize for what I said earlier. I just got off the plane and had time to think about it. Sorry bro!! No Excuses. Won’t happen again.”  (The tweet resulted in a $50,000 fine from the NBA.)
