Random Friday Thoughts — June 10, 2016

We’re moving closer to the official start of summer, but this is going to be the hottest weekend in the Quad Cities since last September.  I’ll definitely be floating in the pool with a cold beverage!

Great response and feedback to last week’s “Random Friday Thoughts”, so let’s jump right into this week’s edition.

WHITNEY HOUSTON RUMOR CONFIRMED (?)

It’s been more than four years since superstar Whitney Houston died, but in his new book, “Every Little Step”, ex-husband Bobby Brown confirms a longstanding rumor about Houston.

As I wrote in a blog in early 2013, there was always speculation that Whitney was in an intimate relationship with her personal assistant, Robyn Crawford.

Whitney Robyn

In that blog, Whitney’s mother, Cissy Houston denied it.

However, in his new book, Brown says that Whitney was bisexual and that she and Crawford were in a longtime relationship.

Brown writes, “I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney’s life, Whitney would still be alive today.” He goes on to say that Whitney didn’t have any close friends after Crawford.

It’s sad to think that if that’s true and she had been accepted for who she was, she might still be with us.

You can read my blog about her mother’s views on Whitney’s sexuality and relationship with Crawford by clicking this link.  (It’ll open in a new window and you won’t lose your place in today’s blog.)

One last thing — Bobby Brown, please don’t continue to mine Whitney and Bobbi Kristina’s deaths for your personal financial gain.  Let them R.I.P. after this.

Those 115-thousand-plus Hillary retweets and likes were just in the first hour!

On the other hand, Donald Trump’s comment had 100-thousand less retweets and only 26-thousand likes in the same time period!

Oh Snap!

BERNIE SANDERS, THANK YOU!

While things didn’t work out for Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic race for president and he did get testy and borderline rude toward the end of the primary and caucus season, I commend him on the fight and the awareness of the broken system he brought to this year’s race for the White House.

APTOPIX DEM 2016 Debate

After meeting with President Obama Thursday, Sanders told reporters he would “work as hard as I can to make sure that Donald Trump does not become president of the United States”, which he said would be a “disaster”.

He also said, “I look forward to meeting with (Clinton) in the near future to see how we can work together to defeat Donald Trump and to create a government which represents all of us and not just the 1%.”

Here’s to unity and the political demise of Trump!

PAUL RYAN CALLED DONALD TRUMP WHAT?

House Speaker Paul Ryan (Mitt Romney’s 2012 vice presidential running mate) this week said that 2016 Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump made “a textbook definition of a racist comment” about U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel.

Trump claims that because Curiel is of Mexican heritage he can’t preside over Trump’s case fairly because the likely GOP presidential candidate wants to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

RomneyRyan

But, Ryan still says he’ll be voting for Trump in November.

Nicely played, GOP!

GOODBYE BRETAGNE, YOU BEAUTIFUL GIRL

Bretagne (pronounced “Brittany”), a 16-year-old golden retriever, crossed the “rainbow bridge” earlier this week in Houston, Texas.

bretagne.jpg

She’s the last known surviving canine hero who searched the rubble of “Ground Zero” after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

“The Daily Golden” reports that her owner and handler noticed that Bretagne wasn’t eating (her favorite thing) and she knew something was wrong.

On Monday, members of the Texas Task Force 1 and the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department greeted Bretagne as she entered the veterinarian’s office for the last time.

Goodbye Bretagne.jpg

She was later brought out draped in an American flag while her admirers still stood saluting.

An autopsy is being conducted since the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation is conducting a study of all 9/11 search and rescue dogs.

I don’t often tear up when writing my blogs, but I did with this entry.

GORILLA KILLING FOLLOW-UP

Last week, I talked about the Cincinnati Zoo incident that led to the shooting death of a 17-year-old silverback gorilla after a 3-year-old child crawled into the animal’s exhibit.

Hamilton County prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced earlier this week that no charges would be brought against the little boy’s mother stating she “did not act in any way where she presented this child to some harm. She had three other children with her and turned her back.”

Deters added, “The zoo lost a beautiful animal and one that many people in this area have enjoyed watching for some time.”  But, he continued, “it’s still an animal”.

He stated that zoo officials are “heartsick” and “on so many levels, this is a tragedy.”

TODRICK HALL IS A GENIUS!

If you’re a big YouTuber or an avid “American Idol” fan, you might know 31-year-old singer-dancer-choreographer-actor-director Todrick Hall.

If not, let me share with you a soon to be masterpiece.  Hall blends together two of my favorites into seven minutes of pure bliss — Britney Spears and “Beauty and the Beast”.

So, until Britney drops her new single “Make Me (Oooh)” in July and the album this fall and the live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast” arrives in theaters next spring (more on that below), this will be on repeat on my computer.

Classic!

THE PUBLIC RESTROOM DEBATE

Confused over the whole controversy of allowing transgender Americans to use the bathroom of their gender identity and not their sex?

LGBT

If you haven’t been following the story, North Carolina put into place “House Bill 2, the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act” which bans people from using public bathrooms that do not correspond to their biological sex in late March 2016.

The Department of Justice alerted the state’s Governor and the University of North Carolina system that this is a violation of the U.S. Civil Rights Act.

In just the first month after “House Bill 2” was announced, tourism and hospitality took a $77 million hit in investments and visitor spending with cancelled concerts, TV and movie production, and many state and city governments refusing to travel to North Carolina.

THE INCREDIBLE DOLLY PARTON SPEAKS OUT

You don’t have to be a country music fan to think the world of Dolly Parton because of her open-mindedness and honesty.

Dolly

While Dolly didn’t cancel the opening night of her “Pure & Simple Tour” in Greensboro, North Carolina last Friday night, she definitely has something to say about the transgender community and the controversy.

This appeared on CNN Money’s Facebook page last Friday.

Kudos Dolly!

“JUST PEE”

Pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Broadway and movie star Harvey Fierstein, and the cast of Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” have an entertaining and thought-provoking look at the whole bathroom debate with “Just Pee”.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

“THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN”

We’re already six months into the year and I still haven’t gone to the movies yet.  I had planned on seeing “Money Monster”, but that never materialized.

Last year, it was December before Ray and I finally went to the theater and we saw “Krampus”.

This will all change October 7th when “The Girl on the Train” hit multiplexes with Emily Blunt.

The Girl on the Train

If you’re not familiar with it, get on board and read the thriller.

In Paula Hawkins’ 2015 worldwide best seller, “Rachel is an alcoholic, divorced woman who becomes obsessed with a couple she sees on a regular basis from the train she takes into London.  One day, she sees something strange that will trigger a series of events that will have you feverishly turning the pages to see what’s real, what’s not, and what really happened.  It’s a page turner until the end!”  (That’s what I had to say about the book last July.)

Here’s the movie trailer.

After finishing the book last summer, here’s a blog I posted with my dream cast.  Needless to say, Hollywood didn’t listen.  But, I do love Emily Blunt.

https://anthonypeoples.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/my-dream-cast-for-the-girl-on-the-train/

A TALE AS OLD AS TIME….

“Beauty and the Beast” is my favorite Disney movie ever!  I absolutely adore Belle!

Beauty-And-The-Beast

I honestly grew up in Kentucky as the male “Belle”.  In Mayfield, where I was born and raised, I felt like Belle in the “poor provincial town” — just waiting to get out there and I’ve been gone 26 years now!

I’ve been very protective of the 1991 “Best Picture” Oscar-nominated original.  I haven’t seen the musical, but I’d like to one day.

When the direct-to-video sequel, “Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas” arrived in 1997, I bought it only because it was Christmas-themed.  It was enjoyable.

Two summers ago, a live-action version of the film was announced for a March 2017 release date starring Emma Watson of the “Harry Potter” series and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”.

I was elated and scared at the the same time.  Now, after seeing the first trailer, I can’t wait until March 17, 2017 arrives!

The trailer has been viewed almost 16 million times already in just over two weeks!

PICK HIT

American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor blasted on the music scene with her chart-topping single, “All About That Bass”.  That song stayed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and was downloaded more than 9 million times in the U.S. alone!

“Bass” also won two Billboard Music Awards in 2015 and in 2016, Trainor picked up a Grammy Award for “Best New Artist”.

She’s now added three more Top Ten hits on the Hot 100 (“Lips Are Movin”, “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” (with John Legend), and “No”).

While I thought her music was cute, I didn’t jump on the “Bass” band wagon.

However, I do like “Marvin Gaye”, a duet with Charlie Puth.

I fell in love with Meghan after her smoking hot performance of her new song on Jimmy Fallon’s show.  I probably wouldn’t have noticed it if she hadn’t fallen off her high heels after the incredible performance.

But, it was the style and class she exhibited when she fell that endeared her to me.  And, the song, “Me Too”, is now one of my favorites.  It’s such a fun “Song of the Year” contender.

“Me Too” is already a Top Ten hit in Australia and Canada and is currently one of the twenty most played songs on American Top 40 radio.

“SONG OF THE SUMMER”

There’s already speculation as to what will be 2016’s “Song of the Summer” (Memorial Day to Labor Day). Justin Timberlake’s “Trolls” movie song, “Can’t Stop The Feeling!”, is a front-runner.

“Billboard” magazine just released its Top Ten songs of each summer dating back to 1985.

Flashing back thirty years to 1986, Madonna had the “Song of the Summer” with “Papa Don’t Preach”.  I remember so well getting ready on Saturday nights and heading out to “Club DV8” jamming to this song.

BEN WHISHAW…JUST BECAUSE

I have nothing new to report on the talented English actor!

Ben_Whishaw

However, if you haven’t checked out the mini-series “London Spy” or the movie, “Lilting”, stop wasting time and do so now!

THAT’S IT

Well, this has been fun and I already have some thoughts for next week.  I didn’t want you to have to read all day!

As always, thank you for checking out my thoughts and I always welcome yours — as long as you’re diplomatic if we disagree.

Until next week, peace, love and understanding!

They Said What??? Paul Ryan, Seth Rogen, Ke$ha, & Dr. Ruth

FORMER REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PAUL RYAN

(on reversing his views on not allowing gay couples to adopt children):  “Adoption, I’d vote differently these days. That was I think a vote I took in my first term, 1999 or 2000.  I do believe that if there are children who are orphans who do not have a loving person or couple, I think if a person wants to love and raise a child they ought to be able to do that. Period. I would vote that way.”

ACTOR/COMEDIAN SETH ROGEN

“Zac Efron is incredibly handsome.  He’s the sexiest ****** on the planet!  I did a scene with him, and we’re both shirtless, and it was a very humbling experience.  I marveled at the fact that we’re literally the same species.  I’m hairier than he is, so I win at that.  [Zac’s] very veiny. I’m not that veiny.”

POP STAR KE$HA

(to Conan O’Brien on what she uses to write some of her songs):  “It started as a joke but it’s produced some of my favorite songs on my new record.  I turn off all the lights, I walk over to the piano, and I gently low myself, my boobs….  They go onto the keys and I just let them tickle the ivories.  They really just go crazy, and all of a sudden, I have these chord progressions.”

RAPPER A$AP

“I respect men more for coming out.  They joke on Frank Ocean a lot, but at least he ain’t out here frontin.’  I respect gay men who identify it and they out with it. I don’t have a problem with gay people at all.”

NBA CENTER JASON COLLINS

(coming out and becoming the first openly gay male athlete in a major American sports):  “I’m glad I’m coming out in 2013 rather than 2003. The climate has shifted; public opinion has shifted. And yet we still have so much farther to go. Everyone is terrified of the unknown, but most of us don’t want to return to a time when minorities were openly discriminated against.”

MORE JASON COLLINS

“I’m impressed with the straight pro athletes who have spoken up so far — Chris Kluwe, Brendon Ayanbadejo. The more people who speak out, the better, gay or straight. It starts with President Obama’s mentioning the 1969 Stonewall riots, which launched the gay rights movement, during his second inaugural address. And it extends to the grade-school teacher who encourages her students to accept the things that make us different.”

PSYCHOSEXUAL THERAPIST DR. RUTH WESTHEIMER

(on Collins’ coming out):  “I find it very sad.  That’s why I said that I have mixed feelings, that we even have to talk about it. In my opinion, this is a private matter and everybody has to be respected for who they are.”

ESPN SPORTS ANALYST CHRIS BROUSSARD

(about Collins coming out): “If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality; adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals, whatever it may be — I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and Jesus Christ, so I would not characterize that person as a Christian, because I don’t think the Bible would characterize them as a a Christian.”

JENNIFER ROBACK-MORSE, PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MARRIAGE’S RUTH INSTITUTE  (The Ruth Institute is anti-gay and anti-equality)

(complimenting Broussard and downplaying Collins’ announcement):  “I mean, it requires no courage at all today to say ‘I’m gay.’ It’s my understanding [Collins] got a phone call from the president congratulating him on his courage. Well, how much courage can it take if the president’s going to pick up the phone and give you a personal phone call, you know? But in the meantime, this fellow who says, you know, ‘I’m a Christian, and I believe that sex belongs in marriage and it belongs in man-woman marriage,’ to say that, now that will bring the whole wrath of the society down upon your head. So that’s the guy that really required the courage and I give him a lot of credit for it.”

Random Thoughts 2012 Recap, Part Two

Here’s another round of the random blogs that I posted this summer that covered multiple topics.  To read each random blog, I’ve made it easy so you only have to click on the highlighted title inside the blog.  Have a great Saturday.

June 21, 2012

You Know What I’m Thinking?

In this blog, I talked about classic rock and kitchen renovation, causes of death in the United States, the summer drought and being ready for fall and winter, Olivia Newton-John, my future pick hit from Chris Wallace, and chocolate wine.

July 10, 2012

I’m Thinking About These Things Today (And You May Agree or Disagree)

In this blog,  just ten days before the Aurora, Colorado, movie theater shooting spree, I said “guns don’t kill, people do”.  I know that guns caused the actual deaths, but there was a person behind them.  Sadly, when I wrote this segment of the blog, I referenced the Tucson, Arizona shooting and I had no idea of what would happen later in the month.  And, now we have the fresh, sad memories of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting.  You might find the reading interesting and I welcome your feedback.

I also referenced work and seniority, which is another ill-fated topic since I’m no longer there.

There were also random thoughts about Hank Williams Jr. calling President Obama “Hitler”, food, the remake of “Steel Magnolias”, Carrie Underwood, and the music of Laura Pausini.

My Wandering Mind — Here’s What I’m Thinking About

The heavy topic on my mind here was about returning soldiers and the demons they face, which leads to more suicides.  I also touched on human rights.  On a lighter note, I had random thoughts about “Dexter”, fall, food, “Zero Dark Thirty”, “Artpop”, Lady Gaga, “The Paperboy”, “Lebanon”, and the music of Demi Lovato.

August 26, 2012

Oh No, He’s Thinking About Random Things

Topics here:  nuclear power plants, healthy eating and cheesecake, bigotry, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, fall, Thomas Roberts’ upcoming marriage, hot new music from Zedd and Madonna, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Argo”.

One more coming tomorrow.

They Said What??? Chick-fil-A, Rick Santorum, Ann Coulter, Aziz Ansari, & Tom Hanks

FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE RICK SANTORUM

“One of my speeches, I went to Iowa. And immediately when I announced that I was going to Iowa, everyone started, well, is he running for president?  Well I said, yeah, that’s the logical thing for someone who lost their last Senate race in 2006 by the largest margin of any incumbent in 40 years.  Sure, run for president! That makes all the sense in the world!”

CHAMBLEE, GEORGIA CHICK-fil-A ADVERTISEMENT

“Only a fruitcake wouldn’t love our party trays.”

STEVE ROBINSON, CHICK-fil-A EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF MARKETING OFFICE

“This is an advertisement that a locally owned and operated restaurant has been using for the past five years to promote Chick-fil-A’s catering options during the holidays.  It was simply a play on words referring to the traditional holiday food, and the restaurant had no intention of offending anyone whatsoever. We regret the flier may have been taken out of context.”

BEEFCAKE ACTOR MARIO LOPEZ

(in a tweet that ticked off gay activists):  “Why does it seem like I always crave Chick-fil-A on Sundays?? #Frustrating.”

REPUBLICAN MOUTHPIECE ANN COULTER

(tweeted):  “Last Thursday was national ‘coming out’ day. This Monday is national ‘disown your son’ day.”

GLAAD, THE GAY AND LESBIAN ALLIANCE AGAINST DEFAMATION

(acknowledging that Coulter’s words were meant to be a joke):  “she is not really taken seriously in any context anyway.”

ROCK STAR BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

“Right now, there is a fight going on to help make this a fairer and more equitable nation. For me, President Obama is our best choice to get us and keep us moving in the right direction.”

MITT ROMNEY ADVISER BAY BUCHANAN

“Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to the states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children.”

OSCAR WINNER TOM HANKS

(after dropping the “f-bomb” on “Good Morning America”):  “Man oh man, I’m sorry.  I have never done that before. I want to apologize to the kids in America that are watching this right now, and let me say next time on the show there will be a seven-second delay.”

RYAN MURPHY, “THE NEW NORMAL” AND “GLEE” CREATOR

(tweet):  “Guess who’s coming on The New Normal as Bryan’s [Andrew Rannells] sexy ex-boyfriend? The one and only Matt Bomer!!!”

“PARKS AND RECREATION” STAR AZIZ ANSARI

“At this point, why is anyone against gay marriage?” Ansari asked Kimmel. “You know you’re going to lose. You know you’re on the wrong side of things. These are the same people that didn’t want women to vote, that didn’t want black guys to play football. What was the last thing they were opposed to? Interracial relationships? Look, if you’re opposed to interracial relationships, guess what: I’m f***ing white girls, there’s nothing you can do about it!”

CALIFORNIA LT. GOVERNOR & FORMER SAN FRANSISCO MAYOR GAVIN NEWSOM

(about Vice President wannabe Paul Ryan):  “I mean this is a guy who voted against Matthew Shepard and the Hate Crimes law. This is a guy who voted against gay and lesbian couples adopting.  What’s so disappointing about Ryan is the generational disappointment. He’s roughly my age, and I have a lot of Republican friends my age and they’ve just moved on, they’ve evolved on these issues. But Ryan hasn’t, and that’s so extraordinarily disappointing. If he represents a generational shift in the Republican Party, that scares the hell out of me. That’s a generational shift backwards, from my perspective, not a leap forward. So a Romney presidency concerns me also because of these federal court appointees. I really fear for that even more broadly speaking. Not just the marriage issue, but the rights of gay and lesbian Americans.”

Anthony

They Said What??? Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mitt Romney, Madonna, & Sam Champion

CIRCUIT DJ & MUSICIAN DEADMAU5

(looking for more attention after last spring telling Madonna “F*** off, you f***ing idiot”.  In March, at a large dance festival in Miami, when introducing hot DJ Avicci, Madonna asked the concertgoers, “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?”, which is slang for a club circuit drug):  “I should have been more relentless, but I thought I looked like I was after attention, and then it became an exercise in futility dealing with her fans. There’s no such thing as winning against 10 million idiots. You’re farting against thunder on that one.”

ACTRESS SALMA HAYEK

“Do I envy Madonna’s body? Yes. Do I thank God that she has it? Yes! If you’re fifty-something and you look like Madonna, and you put a lifetime’s work in the way you look, then flash it to the world!”
REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE MITT ROMNEY

(to President and Mrs. Obama at the first presidential debate last week in Denver): “Congratulations to you on your anniversary.  I’m sure this is the most romantic place you could imagine, here with me!”

“GOOD MORNING AMERICA” WEATHER ANCHOR SAM CHAMPION

(after announcing his wedding to his boyfriend later this year):  “I’ve never been happier to share a bit of personal news!!”

VICE PRESIDENT WANNABE PAUL RYAN

(criticizing President Obama’s decision not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriages as between a man and woman only):  “It’s not the president’s job to pick and choose which laws he likes. A Romney administration will protect traditional marriage and the rule of law and we will provide the Defense of Marriage Act the proper defense in the courts that it deserves.

FORMER CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

(admitting that he officiated two weddings while governor):  “I don’t have to be for gay marriage. I’m for that she (Kennedy) gets the kind of wedding and the kind of ceremony that I had when I got married with Maria (Shriver).  I, personally, always said that marriage is between a man and a woman. But I would never enforce my will on people.  If they want to get married, let them get married.”

MADONNA

(to a Vancouver, British Columbia fan):  “I hope you can appreciate how hard we’re working up here.  You’re wearing a T-shirt that says Open Your Heart and you don’t know the words to the song? What the f—?”

Anthony

They Said What??? Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, The Pope, Madonna, & Lady Gaga

REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE MITT ROMNEY

“When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem.”

VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PAUL RYAN

(on not re-instating “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”):   “Now that it’s done, we should not reverse it. I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves. I think this issue is past us. It’s done. And I think we need to move on.”
RYAN AGAIN
(to a Cincinnati, Ohio crowd):  “The things you talk about like traditional marriage and family and entrepreneurship.  These aren’t values that are indicative to any one person or creed or color. These are American values, these are universal human values.”
JOHN BOLTON, MITT ROMNEY’S FOREIGN POLICY ADVISOR
(using a derogatory term toward gay men over President Obama’s Libya response):  “The US is viewed under Obama as weak, as Sen. McCain said, as declining in influence dramatically in the Middle East, pulling out of Iraq, intending to pull out of Afghanistan, having a limp wristed reaction to the assassination of four American diplomats.”

SINGER ADAM LAMBERT

(about Paris Hilton anti-gay/AIDS comments last week):  “I’m not touching that one. She’s not worth it.”

CHICK-fil-A COO DAN CATHY

“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been.”

POPE BENEDICT XVI

(speaking to French bishops at the Vatican): “Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature, since whatever is injurious to them is injurious to society itself. [The family] is threatened in many places by a faulty conception of human nature that is proven to be defective. Defending life and the family in society isn’t retrograde, rather it’s prophetic. The Church must promote those values that permit the full development of the human person.”

LADY GAGA

(responding to the Pope): “I think that gay marriage is going to happen. It must. We are not actually equal — humanity — if we are not allowed to freely love one another…What the Pope thinks of being gay does not matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope. … It is not a reflection of all religious people.”

MADONNA

(in concert in Washington DC):  “Y’all better vote for f–king Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing s–t.  It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, goddamnit.”

RESPONDING TO THE UPROAR MADONNA RELEASED THIS STATEMENT:  “I was being ironic on stage. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim – though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. And what if he were?  The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to. I don’t care what religion Obama is – nor should anyone else in America.”

Anthony

They Said What??? — Hugh Hefner, Hank Williams Jr., Rihanna, Crazy Politicians, & Madonna

HUGH HEFNER, “PLAYBOY” FOUNDER

“The fight for gay marriage is, in reality, a fight for all our rights. Without it, we will turn back the sexual revolution and return to an earlier, puritanical time.  Today, in every instance of sexual rights falling under attack, you’ll find legislation forced into place by people who practice discrimination disguised as religious freedom. Their goal is to dehumanize everyone’s sexuality and reduce us to using sex for the sole purpose of perpetuating our species. To that end, they will criminalize your entire sex life.”

ALAN CHAMBERS, LEADER OF “EXODUS INTERNATIONAL”, AN “EX-GAY” CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION

“Do I think there are people living a gay Christian life who are going to be in heaven with me?  I do. If they have a relationship with God.”

MORE CHAMBERS

“For someone to put out a shingle and say, ‘I can cure homosexuality’ — that to me is as bizarre as someone saying they can cure any other common temptation or struggle that anyone faces on Planet Earth.”

HAS-BEEN COUNTRY SINGER HANK WILLIAMS JR.

(at the Iowa State Fair):  “We’ve got a Muslim President who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him!”

MISSOURI REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE TODD AKIN

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy from rape) is really rare.  If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.  But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”

DEE SNIDER OF THE ROCK BAND TWISTED SISTER

“I emphatically denounce Paul Ryan’s use of my band Twisted Sister’s song, ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It,’ in any capacity.  There is almost nothing he stands for that I agree with except the use of the [workout program] P90X.”

RIHANNA

(to Oprah about her 2009 attack at the hands of ex-boyfriend/singer Chris Brown):  “No one could feel that more than me. Nobody felt what I felt. It happened to me in front of the world.  I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched. Switched in a night. I couldn’t control that.”

ACTOR JEREMY RENNER (“THE HURT LOCKER” & “THE BOURNE LEGACY”)

“‘I talked to some other friends of mine about the rumours when I first heard them. I said, ‘Have you seen this?’ and they were like, ‘Dude, do you know how long that’s been online?’ Look up any actor and it’s the second thing that comes up. So I have gay rumours – guess I’ve made it!'”

ELTON JOHN

“Being the child of someone famous is a huge ball and chain around your ankles.  It’s going to be very difficult.  At school other children will say, ‘You don’t have a mummy,’ we’ve come a long way, but there’s still homophobia and will be until a new generation of parents don’t instil it in their children.”

MADONNA

(before singing “Masterpiece”, the song that won a Golden Globe Award this year over Elton John’s “Hello Hello”):  “I’d like to dedicate this next song to a Mr. Elton John.  I know he’s a big fan of it.  And I know he’s a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere.”

ED KOCH, FORMER NEW YORK CITY MAYOR

“”The Western cultural elite is rallying to the defense of the disrupters in the cathedral…”I would assume that many Pussy Riot supporters would take a different position, and rightly so, if here in the U.S. a black church were invaded and three men or women engaged in comparable conduct insulting holy places within the church and the pastor. I recall when I was Mayor in 1989 and the AIDS activist group Act Up, unjustifiably angry with John Cardinal O’Connor, invaded St. Patrick’s Cathedral and interrupted the Mass, throwing the Communion wafers – which for Catholics are the actual Body of Christ – to the floor.”
